He lies and he steals

link.

Many moons ago, DovBear expressed his outrage about Ann Coulter's plagiarism. Or has DovBear put it "word theivery." In fact when a fellow blogger tried to minimize Ann's transgressions, DovBear would have none of it:
So thanks for the ethics lesson, Ezzie: stealing other people’s words and ideas is okay, as long as you limit it to many short summations or lists.
So how shocked was DovWeasel to discover that DovBear is a serial plagiarizer. And not merely "short summations or lists" but word for word lifting of text from other sources with no attribution. Enjoy.

It's like every other month someone tries to do something like this ...

Feh, who cares about plagiarizing? I would much rather see a list of all DB's frequent spelling mistakes.

LOL.

I like the use of color, though.

Frankly my dear weasel I don't give a damn.

You stole this idea from the other DovBear-hater blogs.

You have got to be kidding. Someone clearly needs to get a life. This is the blogosphere and while proper citations are always appreciated, none of us are writing for the Times. I think this reflects more poorly on the hatas then on the playas. Word.

Shifra! Quick! I better see some attribution fast or else there is a AskWeasel in your future!

AskWeasel! I think Hot Chanie may be behind this site!

Wow. Way, waaaay too much time on his hands.

Lol re AskWeasel. (Krum, if I don't cite you on AskWeasel, is there a WeaselMom in the future?)

DovWeasel-the internet's own Geraldo Rivera - he opens the vault and no one cares. Looks like it took some serious time and energy too.

This isnt a case of "improper citation", dovbear very clearly lifted other peoples original thoughts and arguments and passed them off as his own insights. This is quite dishonest.

He isnt a student or an employee so he cant be fired or expelled, but it should definitely hurt his credibility and his authority.

All bloggers are competing for readers. This is no different than a comedian stealing jokes. I guess when you cant come with with enough original thoughts, you have to start stealing other peoples.

Anon 9:01:

I agree. This is a very clear example of taking full thoughts, and word for word pasting them as if they are his own. This isn't like 'forgetting' to give a hattip. This is plagiarism, premeditated, pure and simple.

It should hurt his credibilty and authority? What credibilty and authority? You've wasted your time. DB's just a midlevel blogger; no one cares about your sleuthing or his credibility.

Maybe Dov Bear grew up charedi where he was taught that stealing is OK

That BareDove comment above was not from me. I shut down my site long ago. It was active for only about one month.

I don't know why people are attacking DovWeasel. I think his actions were very much-needed, and I thank him for them.

It is a crime to misrepresent the thoughts of others in this manner. It is brought down in the Gemara itself that one cannot mislead others in this manner, and must say things in the names of others (I will try to find that post.)

DovBear has misread his readers by doing this. He has committed an unconscionable crime. I, for one, will no longer continue to read him.

I am appalled by this breach of trust.

Onan-ymous,
That was quite a highbrow comment you wrote there. I, too, will take the high road by not pointing out the hilarious way you misspelled Anonymous.

As a Chareidi reader of DovBare, it would be wrong for me to kick sand in his face when he's down.

Even though he would gladly do that to me, and claim it was "hidden love, open rebuke"

dov bare kept asking for examples of his attacking chareidis but didn't accept the examples shown. this goes much farther and is unquestionable. no ignoring this proof.

PT: Perhaps the real name for this site is the "PyschoWeasel?

(And there ain't no such thing as a "Hot Weasel")

Dang! Hot Chanie beat me to the punch!

I agree that sources should always be cited. I have always tried to do so. But I've read opinions by some pretty prominent rabbis that there is no halachic concept of intellectual property. While I find that argument difficult (I'm an academic and we live and breath intellectual property on a daily basis), how do you know that DB's rabbi doesn't hold that way?

In any case, DB has apologized and commited to tshuvah:

http://dovbear.blogspot.com/2006/12/my-mea-culpa.html

I believe that we are now required to forget the sin.
